K9care - FAQ's

    K9care is a tailored pet protection plan that covers medical costs for pet dogs with microchips against specified diseases, accidents and injuries. It also covers your obligation towards the general public in case of any bodily injury and/ or property damage suffered by them because of your pet.

    Dog ownership is growing faster in India than any other country. Unfortunately, while dog ownership increases by 7% per year, less than 0.5% of our pets have medical cover. This is an issue because the cost of basic pet treatment is significant and increasing. For instance, gastro-enteritis is a common condition affecting dogs worldwide, while others such as tick borne diseases, poisoning and cancer can prove fatal if not diagnosed and treated on time. The cost of these treatments could range anywhere from INR 50,000 to INR 1,50,000 or higher, depending on the severity of the condition.

    K9care is a medical plan that covers pet diseases, accidents and injuries. K9care also covers surgeries, treatment, medicines and your obligation towards the general public in case of any bodily injury and/ or property damage suffered by them because of your pet.

    At the moment K9care is available for dogs only. All dogs need to have a microchip.

    K9care includes generous coverage for the following medical conditions.     New policies are available for dogs that are older than two months and less than 8 years old.

    We do have some limitations in place to keep prices low for all Petpal customers. Hence, microchipping is required so your K9care can be activated. Without activation you cannot make a claim. There is a time limit of seven days for you to provide the microchip number.

    While you can get your pet microchipped at any veterinarian clinic, we recommend you visit one of the following as they have been vetted by Petpal and, in future if you need to make a claim, these vets will save time when there’s a claim because their systems are better integrated with the IT systems of our claims partner XCover.     No, K9care doesn’t cover your pet if it has disease/conditions which existed before purchasing the plan.

    Once activated, the plan will be active for one year for your pet and can be activated every year . You can cancel the plan at any time but unfortunately there are no refunds as the plan is paid for 12 months in advance. Your pet will continue to be protected till the end of the period and your plan will be deactivated thereafter.

    K9care is designed to protect your pet against injuries or illnesses that did not exist prior to purchasing the plan.

    Some diseases and medical conditions are excluded by your plan. Congenital anomaly, diagnosed behavioural problems, pregnancy and illness/conditions which existed before purchasing the plan are not covered.     Your Petpal plan is designed to cover illness, diseases and injuries. Pregnancy is unfortunately neither of these so it is not covered by your Petpal plan.     Unfortunately, we do not cover behaviour-related conditions.

    We require that your pet is fully vaccinated and that regular check-ups, grooming and treatments are maintained. Neglect of these will lead to non-payment of any benefits covered under this Plan.

    You can start your claim on Petpal. Just login to your Petpal account to get started. You will be required to provide details about the claim you are making with supporting evidence:

    • Supporting documents such as veterinary prescriptions/receipts in the form of photos.
    • Clear video evidence of the vets scanning the microchip to ensure that this matches the details provided when you signed up for the plan. This is to verify that the pet being treated is the same one covered under the plan.
    • First Information Report (FIR) and Court Order in the case where your pet has injured or damaged property of general public.

    There are no restrictions on the number of claims you may submit, however we will only pay up to the coverage limit shown on your plan details.     If you wish to change your plan and adjust your coverage limit you will unfortunately have to cancel your plan and purchase a new one. We recommend doing this at the end of your cover period (see “Is there a refund if I cancel”) but keep in mind that any new plan that is purchased will require you to disclose any illness or injury which existed before purchase of the new plan and the same will not be covered.

    Any claim must be reported within 24 hours from date of diagnosis (for illness) or date of incident (for injuries). You can email us at k9care@petpal.in or call +91 88-8081-8081 for to do this. You must submit your claim within 30 days of completion of treatment.
